Keith's New Calling - Bishop Brown

August 23, 2009 Keith was ordained and set apart as bishop of the Oatfield Ward of the Milwaukie Oregon Stake. We were lucky that Taylor was already visiting from Provo and Megan and Kevin were able to get plane tickets and fly to Oregon. It meant a lot to Keith for our family to be there together.

Katelyn's 15th Birthday

Katelyn spent her birthday at girl's camp. When she got home we celebrated with some friends, the Dotys. She want a yellow and cake with chocolate frostening. She also got a camera and a new bed for her birthday. Happy Birthday Katelyn!!!! I'm surprised we haven't been to DMV yet. :)

Katelyn's Little Accident

Katelyn had a little accident at Youth Conference. She was trotting on a horse around a corner and a tree when her foot slipped out of the stirrup. She lost her balance and fell off the horse. Those who witnessed the fall said it was very graceful. Unfortunately her wrist is broken and her tail bone is very sore. She got to leave Youth Conference for x-rays, a real bathroom and prime rib dinner! Thanks Brother Doty for taking such good care of her.

Yesterday was my mom's last chemo treatment : )As a tribute to her the entire family wore pink. It was my sister Nicole's idea. We all thought it was a great one. Keith and I even drove out to Forest Grove to get a picture with Katelyn. She is at EFY. We all love you Mom (grandma)!!!!!!

New Friend

This is a Chucker Partridge. He has adopted our home. He has been living in the bushes between our house and the neighbors. Smokey wants to get him really bad and Ally thinks its fun to chase him around the cars in the drive way. The bird hardly ever flies and he walks like a penguin.

Taylor is living in Raintree apartment in Provo. The first day we went in the smell was sickening. However, Taylor convinced everyone to clean and now it is much better.

On our way to Provo Taylor and I stopped off in Rexburg to help Megan and Kevin move. They were very lucky and found a really nice "big" apartment. The kitchen has all new cabinets and the square footage is more than double were they were living. P.S. The little guy is Alex. Jan's little boy.

Utah Valley University

Taylor started school at Utah Valley University on May 6, 2009. He decided to go to Provo so the transition to BYU in January would be easier. He is taking a calculus based physics class and lab on the block. That means the class is accelerated. He also started working part time this week at a satellite company in American Fork.

Katelyn played tennis for Rex Putnam High School. She really loved it. Her coach was extremely positive. (Let's hear it for elementary teacher coaches). We look forward to seeing her play again next year.

Megan and Kevin were lucky enough to take a Mexico cruise for Spring Break. It must be nice!!!! We were really happy for them that they were able to go and get back just as the "Swine Flu" outbreak was starting.

Brown Family Freak Show

I thought maybe I should explain how our blog got its name "the brown family freak show". This picture was taken back in 2002. It was the day that Keith was put into the Oatfield Ward Bishopric. A few months later ( maybe even a year or so) Keith forgot to get speakers for Sacrament meeting. He made Taylor and Megan speak as the youth speakers. He then asked his mother to talk and he was the final speaker. They did an amazing job and it was a great meeting, however; Megan was the first speaker and she announced in a joking way that the meeting was going to be the "brown family freak show". Since then it has just been a joke in our family.

Smokey

Some days I wonder if animals in our family are really worth it! Today Smokey caught and killed a Blue Jay in the back yard. That was very upsetting to Katelyn who was crying the whole time I was getting a shovel to put the bird in the garbage can. After disposing of the bird I had to give Smokey a bath and brush his teeth. In the mean time it started to pour down rain and because of all the excitement Kate was late for school. She asked me if I would drive her. While I was gone Smokey pooped on the guest bed. He better watch out!! He may be looking for a new home soon. Since going to school Kate has been sending me text messages asking in birds carry rabies. Does anyone know?

BYU Idaho

Taylor has been accepted to BYU Idaho for Spring and Fall tracks. We are really excited for him!!!! He also has BYU Provo on hold for Janurary, 2010. Next Monday he will be flying to Salt Lake and spending the week with old missionary companions. On Feb. 28th Taylor and Elder Ellis are taking the Portuguese language test for college credits.

Katelyn also got in on the Valentine fun. She "heart attacked" David Lewis' room and invited him to go with her and some friends to the youth dance. Unfortunately after driving around for two hours and going to two different Beaverton church buildings we were unable to find the dance. The dance became a rock band party at our house.!!!

Much to her mother's dismay (haha), Katelyn got a 4.0 for her first semester of High School. I tried really hard to convince her that B's are fine and to just get one early in her High School career so she wouldn't have to worry. But she didn't!!! Way to go Katelyn!!!! Dad and I are really proud of you.

Taylor and his friend, David are standing by the van. It is some where under all that snow.

Portland hasn't seen this much snow since 1968. We have had plenty and are wanting it to go away. Last week school was cancelled because of snow. Now winter break has started and we want to be able to leave our home. Today we took the Bronco out with chains because Carla need to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. for surgery. We are also hoping the airport gets up and running so Megan and Kevin can arrive on Wednesday.
